The Many Health Benefits of Dance

Shaking your groove-thang is more than simply having fun; it’s also amazing for your physical and mental well-being. Here are some of the obvious and not-so-obvious benefits that dancing provides your body and soul. Thanks to the Better Health Channel for these pointers.

Weight Loss: Tired of staring at a blank wall as you run nowhere on a treadmill? Instead of boring ol’ cardio, why not try to dance? Dancing is an excellent way to get your body moving and burn off calories while doing it. Zumba is one of the most popular exercise classes taken today and revolves around the latest hip-hop and Latin dance moves.

Memory: In the golden age of cell phones, who can remember a phone number anymore? Technology may be doing away with out memories, but dancing will help strengthen it. How? If you are dancing using choreographed moves (like the ones you learn on your Learn Club Dance DVD) you will have no choice but to program them into your brain so that you can use them for the club later. Memorizing these moves is a great way to give your brain a boost and to keep your memory in check.

Coordination: While being clumsy isn’t exactly a health problem, it’s not a great trait to have either. While you may not ever possess the grace of a professional ballerina, taking time out to learn dance moves is a great way to get rid of one of your two left feet.

Social Improvement: Are you the type of person who spends their Friday nights bingewatching Netflix? That’s all fine and good, but it’s important to be social (social media doesn’t count) sometimes. Increased Stamina and Flexibility: Get your mind out of the gutter! Both of these things are essential to healthy living. Who doesn’t want to finally touch their toes or not huff and puff after a steep flight of stairs?

Reduce Stress: It’s nearly impossible not to be stressed out in our daily lives. According to the  Journal of Applied Gerontology, dance (specifically partner dance) has been a proven form of stress-relief.
