Frequently Asked Questions about Hip Hop Moves for the Club

Do any of these moves require previous dance experience? I’m a complete beginner.

These moves really do not require any previous dance experience. Few guys have it, so we made sure to teach only moves that you can all pick up quickly, and almost effortlessly. The instructors break everything down to such simple steps and movements that any guy dancing even for the first time is able to pick up the moves after practicing just a few times. The truth is you can learn even hard moves on DVD with no previous experience. Whenever you learn something, anything – how quickly you pick it up all depends on the instructors ability to teach, your interest in learning, and believing that it’s easy to learn. Your instructors have taught thousands of guys in person who had no prior experience and we get emails

Can I really learn form a DVD?

Absolutely. The instructors do an incredible job of making each move very easy to learn. They first show you how each move looks full speed, so you could see what you’re about to learn. Then they break it down step by step and teach it to you from the front, back and side angles. Seeing each move from different angles answers any questions you might have as far as how close your feet should be together, or how bent your knees should be, etc. The instructors also show you the wrong way to do each move and common mistakes so you can see the difference and apply it.

Who are the instructors? What qualifications do they have to teach?

Your instructors are Joe Hamrick and Kevin R. Hayes Jr. who have over 14 years combined teaching experience in LA and NY. They have taught thousands of people to dance in person and have held dance workshops throughout the United States. They have appeared on ABC, NBC, FOX, VH1, MTV, BET and in countless live performances. With their ability to break down even the toughest moves in a simple, personable manner, they are able to keep you entertained and motivated as you learn each move with ease.

How quickly will I learn these moves? I have this event that I need to learn to dance for in 1 week. I do not have that much free time to learn.

It will take you a lot quicker than you think. Assuming you have none to very little dance experience you will pick up the majority of these moves after going through the video only 5 or 6 times. The first two viewings you will get accustomed to the new movements and instruction and from there on expect to practice a few more times to the video and you’ll really get the hang of it.

Are these dance moves similar to what I see in music videos?
We might not watch enough MTV and BET but the impression we have is that most dancing in music videos is just plain goofy. With few exceptions like Usher, and Justin Timberlake most dancing in music videos is either cheesy where if imitated girls will laugh or it’s just so over-the-top outrageous that people will wonder why you’re showing off – neither of which is the reaction you want. Just to be clear, by learning the moves in this video you will get nonstop compliments and fantastic reactions – but this will be a positive “wow, that guy is an awesome dancer” reaction, rather than “Ok. We get it. You learned how to spin on your head. Now leave us alone and stop showing off.”

How are they different different?

The instructors show you a wide arrangement of club moves from laid back to fun and flirty to high energy to fast-paced to grinding. Yet all these moves will get all eyes on you with that positive reaction you want rather than the negative one. All these moves are hot.

Will I learn moves or routines? How do you see the difference?
This DVD teaches you hot club moves rather than routines. Routines are associated with choreography and usually consist of a bunch of movements that are done to a particular song or beat. Yet once you change the beat that routine will no longer work – so routines cannot be applied at clubs where music is constantly changing. Routines are also way too much work, take too long to learn and are very rarely not seen as cheesy because people can tell that you just memorized a bunch of steps. This DVD focuses on moves which you can keep doing one at a time, switching whenever you choose from one to the next. They all go smoothly together. This way YOU choose when you do each move, depending on the music and the situation. The goal of this video is for you to learn the moves and then go out to a club and not even think about it – just dance- now you know how.

I am not sure that I will be able to approach girls I don’t know (I’ve never met before) on the dance floor even after learning all these awesome moves.
One of the things you’ll learn from the instructors and from the girl commentaries is that almost all girls at the club WANT to be approached. That’s why they’re at the club. Think about it – do you go to a building packed with several hundred people only to hang out with the 3 friends you came with? They don’t either. Given the loud music, conversations are tough to have so they just drink and dance, waiting for a guy who gets it and knows how to move approaches them. And instead either most guys are too uncomfortable to approach or they just approach the wrong way and try to start immediately grinding.

Wait – so I’m not supposed to walk up and start grinding with the girl?
Not really. Very rarely will a girl feel totally comfortable grinding with you right when you’ve approached. You have to first warm her up to you and just dance doing a few moves, with maybe a foot or so between you two. Then you can spin her around a few times and keep dancing for another minute. You’ll see her smiling and then maybe you spin her full body around while moving her closer to you and place her hand on your neck, and THEN start one of the grinding steps you learn.

She will be so impressed that you didn’t start grinding with her. She’s maybe had this much fun dancing with a guy once or twice in her enitre life if at all. Her and her friends will not want to let you go. Guess what happens when other girls see that :-)

I agree with you, but I’m still not sure I could approach new girls.
What if you new without a doubt that when you do approach them they will smile warmly, and start dancing with you and then when you take a break and grab a drink they tell you how amazing a dancer you are and how much fun they had. Would you still worry about approaching – because that’s exactly what will begin to happen night after night once you get these mvoes down. You are only worried because you think they might reject you but when they see that you’re a great dancer in a club where noone knows how to dance they will stick to you like a magnet.

Will I have to learn all these moves or can I get away with learning just several?

You can certainly learn only 2 or 3 moves, 1 or 2 transitions and 1 or 2 grinding steps and you will still be one of the best dancers in the entire club. It is not necessary to learn all these moves. People just have no clue how to dance – and it’s not their fault – they have never been taught. So when you get on the dance floor and you DO know what you’re doing – you do a few moves, spin the girl around and then move into grinding – they will be floored! Most people are fortunate enough to do one move well enough which they just keep doing throughout the night. Next time you’re out notice how even most GIRLS really only shake their hips from side to side and then spin around once or twice. So when YOU get on the dance floor with just several of the moves you will get incredible reactions.

Nine moves, 5 transitions, and grinding steps – will that be enough or do I need to learn more?
This will be more than enough. Remember that all these moves can each be done at the club for a while, and they all have variations that you can switch between. Hip Hop Moves for the Club gives you a wide range of moves for various club scenarios so you always know what you’re doing and never feel at a loss of moves.

When is Volume 2 coming out and what will it include?
Volume 2 will be out this summer .. and as far as what it will include – stay tuned!

The title says “No1 for beginners” how simple are these moves. I don’t want to purchase something that will teach me what I already know. I’m a decent dancer but want to improve, is this for me?
We called this DVD for beginners to distinguish between it and our next volume, advanced. It seems the question is really “will I look good doing these moves or are they just so simple that I wouldn’t want to use them in a club?”

I’m an older guy and love going out to clubs. Can I also pull off these moves or this geared towards guys in their 20′s?

Now these tips from real girls you mention how useful are they really and who are these girls? Why did you include that? Are the tips rehearsed?
The tips from real girlsYou need to hear it from girls. It’s not enough for us to tell you

What year was this released – are these moves appropriate for clubs now?
This DVD waa released in February 2007, so these moves are very much in style now.

I bought an instructional DVD from another studio and it didn’t live up to my expectations. What guarantee do I have that this will?
The Nightclub Dance Series came out of the fact that nothing out there was good or if it was, then it’s just not relevant to how people dance in clubs now. It is either ballroom, salsa, or just so Hip Hop that it cannot be used at a club. And it leaves teh question: What’s teh point of learning moves if you can’t use them anywhere. Everything that was missing and lacking in previous instructional dvds was added in.
We made this based on the fact that nothing was out there and everything that was just didn’t cut it. Everything you didn’t like we fixed form the mnoves to the music to the instructors
